Parndon Wood Crematorium supports local hospice

A charity which supports hundreds of people every year across West Essex and the East Hertfordshire border has received a £3,000 donation from Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium.

The donation has been given to St Clare Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care to help improve the lives of people affected by terminal or life limiting illnesses, or who are experiencing bereavement.

The charity helps patients, their families, and carers make the most of every moment together, with a wide range of support provided at the hospice or in the patients’ own home.

The donation was made from the crematorium’s metal recycling scheme.

With the consent of families, metals recovered during cremation are recycled, and any money raised is used to support selected charities, local activities and environmental initiatives which benefit the communities that the crematorium serves.

Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Westerleigh Group prides itself on providing exceptional care to the bereaved, the standards of which are inspected by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA) in England and Wales, and the Scottish Government.

Parndon Wood manager Joe Jaggers said: “We have donated more than £30,000 to St Clare Hospice over the years in support of the amazing assistance the charity provides to many families in our local communities.

“Some of their team recently paid a visit to our site, which is something they are hoping to do with more staff, so that they have a better understanding of what we do here, and of the care involved.

“The team at St Clare Hospice is committed to providing exceptional support to the families who need them, which resonates with us as we do the same with the families who come to us.

“We look forward to providing more assistance to them in the future, and to welcoming more members of their team to visit us here.”

Ellie Gale, the Relationship Fundraising Manager at St Clare, said: “We are extremely grateful to Parndon Wood Cemetery and Crematorium for their generous donation.

“This £3,000 could cover the cost of running our Patient Family Support Service for a day, which means we can help support friends and relatives of those we care for who may be finding it difficult to cope when a loved one dies or is coming to the end of their life.”
